New Vulnerability in MoE Models Exposes User Prompts

Researchers at Google DeepMind have uncovered a novel vulnerability in Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models, where attackers can fully disclose a victim’s prompt by manipulating expert routing. This attack, demonstrated on a Mixtral model, leverages the Expert-Choice-Routing mechanism and requires a relatively low number of queries to expose user inputs. This discovery highlights significant security implications for MoE architectural designs and calls for urgent development of defense strategies to protect user data.
